A Review of the Great Women in MMA!
Our top 10 list is more like a “Great Female Fighters” list and is not necessarily just about current competitors, but more about those Female MMA fighters who have blessed us with the privilege of watching them transform a sport. This article is a celebration of their prowess and achievements. Of course there are countless other ladies that have contributed to the MMA but we have not been able to include them here. Nevertheless we pay homage to them and their achievements through these top ten lists.
- In first place we have Megumi Fujii who is considered to be one of the very best on the MMA circuit. Her area of specialty is submission fighting and she has become famous for takedowns. The move that has signaled her stardom is the Inazuma Toe Hold submission or the Megulock. She possessed a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. Her trainers include Hiroyuki Abe and Josh Bartnett.
- With her ferocious fighting style and pounding of opponents, Christiane “Cyborg” Santos is tied for first in our rankings with Megumi Fujii. Cyborg’s defeat of our #2 ranked Gina Carano bolted her to the top of our list. Is there a formidable opponent out there who can take the belt from CYborg? We don’t think so!
- In the second place we have the great Gina Joy Carano of American extraction. She is a specialist in Muay Thai and has shown her prowess in numerous fights where she has come out on top. She is one of the starts of the show that brings in audiences every time that she appears on stage. Her presence is guaranteed to get some sort of reaction.
- We then have the formidable presence of Erin Toughill. Her aggression is second to none and she ahs build a reputation that is fearsome. Trained by Sean McCully she has remained one of the stalwarts of the sport.
- Satoko Shinashi has represented Japan very well in the MMA and her specialty is Sambo. She is known for her armbars technique that can keep opponents at bay within a short space of time. She has an impressive 25-1-2 record.
- Tara LaRosa comes in within the fifth place with her colorful career. She is currently the Bodog Fight 135 lbs champion. She has been named one of the very best in the sport and her record on the MMA points towards this fact.
- Jennifer Howe has made a name for herself in the MMA partly due to the great career that she has had in boxing. She has been able to successfully transfer her skills to the new sport with zeal.
- In the seventh place we have Amanda Buckner. She is both a great player and also an active participant in running training camps for people that might want to join the sport. In this she has been a champion of the MMA for a significant period of time.
- The wonderfully named Hisae Watanabe comes in at the eighth place with her pedigree in the sport. She used to do some kickboxing on a professional basis and that has probably helped her game in other areas as well. She is one of the great champions of the MMA and has earned the respect of all the people involved.
- Roxanne Modaferri comes in on the ninth place. She is a pioneer in terms of bringing the game to the heights that it has reached of recent and her place is fully deserved amongst the greats of the MMA.
