Girl Fights Are No Longer the Backyard Brawls They Used To Be!

The sport of MMA fighting needs to be given credit for moving the issue of women’s fights away from the sensational and to the professional.

This has been a gradual process of negotiation and improvement between female MMA fighters, trainers, sporting authorities, and spectators alike.

First of all, the MMA governing authorities started to insist on professional tactics during the fights in order to remove some of the sensationalist tactics that were used by rivals. They made sure that fights were done in a dignified forum. This was true in both men’s and women’s MMA fighting.  There are some interests that pushed this agenda.

First of all many people that genuinely thought about the progress of Mixed Martial Arts Fighting were not pleased that there were suggestions that women would just pull hair, kick, and scream in order to win a fight. That was an indignity that was too far for both the women and the audiences. Of course there were some spectators that went for no other reason than to see women screaming at one another and brawling like some common elements.  This market segment was not significant enough or even powerful enough to sway the decision the other way. Therefore it became clear that in the future only the most professional tactics would be acceptable to the authorities. This was something that made sense to all the people that enjoyed the sport.

The other issue for women in MMA was that there were discussions of equal pay within the MMA. If this was to happen the women had to deliver the same type of professionalism that was taken for granted when it came to their male counterparts. In the event they were able to change the game and deliver those kinds of results, they too felt equal pay should be part of females in the sport. That was a challenge and opportunity for the MMA.  MMA promoters have been working toward meeting this challenge and the sport was literally cleaned up in a relatively short period of time.  People got used to the idea of women fighting on equal terms with the men. That would prove to be a powerful incentive for equal pay. Of course the skeptics still exist.

However, the mainstream in the MMA is now clear about the role of women in the sport. They are equal partners that can fill the stands just as well as the men.  MMA is entertainment, a sport with fans who are knowledgeable and only wanting the best in the fighters they watch and pay to see perform.  The Women of MMA Fighting are up to the challenge and have delivered stunning knock-outs and technical defeats of their opponents.

What do the fighters make of all this? It seems that there is a professional pride in the women’s league within the MMA. These are ladies that want to be taken seriously and the results of recent fighting events have indicated that they have largely achieved this aim. They are posting great wins and they are presenting an image of the MMA which would do the founders proud. It is not by miracles that they have achieved this level of turnaround. Rather it has come about as a result of hard work and commitment to the cause. It remains to be seen whether there will be other incentives to take the game to the next level.
