Background & MMA Achievements…

Gina Carano was born on April 16th, 1982. She has had a great career in Mixed Martial Arts and is also an aspiring model and actress. Her transition into different elements of the entertainment industry has improved her profile and popularity. She was also on the American Gladiators where she chose the Gladiator name of Crush during her introductions.

There are those that say Gina is very good at promoting the women’s sport of Mixed Martial Arts. She has been ranked as number three in the 145 lbs female fighter series as released by the Unified Women’s MMA rankings. Her home town was in Dallas County. She has some sporting pedigree as her dad was a quarter back for the Dallas Cowboys and USFL Pittsburgh Maulers.

She is a graduate of the Trinity Christian High School in Las Vegas. In school she was a team captain for basketball and they won a statewide title during her stay in that post. Her other sporting interests include Volleyball and Softball. She is also a graduate of the University of Nevada as a major in psychology.

Her MMA career has been very eventful to say the least. She started off with a Muay Thai record of twelve and one. She knocked out Rosi Sexton in the World Pro Fighting Show. She won the match against Elaina Maxwell on the 8th of December 2006 through a unanimous decision at the Strikeforce event. She then went on to beat the same fighter in the Muay Thai event. She was involved in the televised fight with Julie Kedzie on the 10th of February 2007. This was a premier event within the Showtime EliteXC card and some people referred to it as the Fight of the Night given the television coverage.

After some illness and cancelled fights she went on to defeat Tonya Evinger at the Showtime EliteXC card on the 15th of September 2007. The tactic that she used on this occasion was the rear naked choke. This was the first time in her career that she won by submission. It was an impressive fight that cemented her place at the top of the sport for the fans and other people that casually watched Female MMA Fighting. She also defeated the great Kaitlin Young who was once a Champion at the Hook and Shoot event. However after the fight she failed to make weight and had to forfeit over ten percent of her earnings on that day to her opponent. However the fight remained on record.

There was some drama in the planned fight against Kelly Kobold when she thrice failed to make weight. In the end she had to remove her clothes in order to make weight. As one can imagine the press went wild with all sorts of lurid connotations. Making the weight had been one of the problems that were dodging her in the career at this stage and she had to hire a nutritionist to try and resolve the problem.  Since Gina Carano has been at the top of her game winning numerous fights and only losing one fight to the top female fighter in her class, Cyborg!
